Since coming to power, the new coalition government in New Zealand, led by National, ACT and New Zealand First, have implemented several initiatives that have garnered positive responses from many New Zealanders. Here are five key accomplishments.

Tax cuts and financial relief

The government fulfilled its promise to provide tax cuts, introducing a relief package aimed at easing the financial burden on households.

This move, part of the 2024 budget, was designed to address the cost of living and has been widely welcomed Zealanders who were struggling with rising expenses.

This coalition government has relaunched the Roads of National Significance programme, committing to 15 major transport projects aimed at improving infrastructure, reducing congestion and enhancing safety on New Zealand’s roads.

This initiative is expected to stimulate economic growth and facilitate regional development.

Removal of Auckland Regional Fuel Tax

I live in Auckland, that’s good. In its first 100 days, the Government introduced legislation to remove the Auckland Regional Fuel Tax. This move was part of a broader effort to reduce living costs, and has been well received by residents who were impacted by the high fuel prices.

Educational reforms

The government has introduced significant changes in the education sector, including a requirement for primary and intermediate schools to dedicate an hour each to reading, writing, and maths. Additionally, they have banned the use of cell phones in schools to minimise distractions in the classroom, and improve learning environments.

Health system targets

The coalition government set ambitious targets for the health system, focusing on reducing wait times and improving cancer treatment outcomes. These measures aim to enhance the quality and efficiency of healthcare services, addressing critical areas of public concern.

These initiatives reflect the coalition’s government’s commitment to addressing immediate economic challenges, improving infrastructure, Enhancing education and providing better public services

That’s a wrap

These have been positively received by a significant portion of the New Zealand population.
